Get Artsy in Wilmington, DE!

Embrace the artistic side of Wilmington! There are lots of ways to take in the visual arts around town. Here are some of our favorite galleries, events, and classes to check out:

1. Artzscape– The Artzscape Gallery is a Black Owned and operated arts and entertainment venue offering small and large events. Check out their “Comic Book Artists & Creators” event August 5th and 6th!

2. The Sold Firm– The Sold Firm gallery shows off modern emerging artists and addresses everything from incarceration to poverty. Totaling less than 100 sq feet, this gallery is both impressive and charming. Owner Nataki Oliver also had the honor of being featured in last year’s New York Times article “After Centuries of Obscurity, Wilmington is Having It’s Moment”

3. DE Contemporary– The Delaware Contemporary is an art space offering creative exhibitions and educational experiences. This space is welcoming and community-oriented and showcases local talent alongside art from around the world. Check out their “Open Figure Drawing” program on Saturdays from 10 am-12 pm.

4. Delaware Art Museum- The Delaware Art Museum isn’t JUST a museum! They also offer workshops, events, and exhibitions. Check out their popular Happy Hour series on Thursdays with live music, lots of drinks, and local food vendors. Their Highlight Tours are also a great way to get to know the museum with welcoming and knowledgeable tour guides.

5. DCAD– The Delaware College of Art and Design offers classes on a variety of visual arts like animation, graphic design, illustration, photography, sculpting and more. Check out the “Toni and Stuart B. Young Gallery” and “Alumni & Friends” shows that are both currently on display for some inspiration. They are also committed to pairing with non-profits to benefit causes they feel strongly about.

6. LaFate Art Gallery– The LaFate Gallery features the work of Eunice LaFate. Born in Jamaica, Eunice’s work is heavily influenced by her upbringing and culture. Check out her Juneteenth collection as well as the charity art sale to benefit local non-profits.

7. Wilmington City Art Loop-  A city favorite, the Art Loop is on the first Friday of each month and features exciting events designed to get people involved in visual arts. Stop by on Friday, May 6th to experience the featured exhibits, student showcases, and hands-on exploration.

8. Watercolors in the Museum at Rockwood– Come down to the historic Rockwood Museum to participate in a fun and affordable watercolor class for people of all ages and abilities! Learn to work in graphite and watercolor while drawing inspiration from the architecture, decorations, and collections at Rockwood.

9. A Taste for Art– A Taste for Art is a creative experience which supports the mission of Children & Families First. Their “Springtime in Paris” event on April 30th includes 20+ local artists, talented student chefs, immersive art, an open bar, and a silent auction to fundraise for youth programs and services.

10. Blue Streak Art Gallery– The Blue Streak Art Gallery shows local and regional modern artists. They recently celebrated their 34 year anniversary! Check out their selection of handmade pieces and find something that you will love.

11. Christina Cultural Arts Center– The CCAC is a cultural hub for all types of art and is especially important to supporting children in the arts. They offer 67 art classes for the Winter/Spring term and have hosted all types of events including exhibits from accomplished local artists.

12. MKT Place Gallery– The MKT Place Gallery features monthly exhibits curated by Sara A. Crawford. Upcoming events include the “Time Travel Department Gallery Show” on May 6th and “Thee Poppin Show” on June 10th. They also have installed a photography exhibit “Downtown Reimagined” at 417 N Market Street!
