“Chateau Country” in the Heart of the Brandywine

Once does not need to read a history book to see that the DuPont legacy is rich with French influence. A visit to one of their many homes and gardens nestled in the Brandywine Valley highlights the Parisian cultural influences and architectural details throughout.

When Pierre-Samuel DuPont de Nemours and his two sons fled France to settle in the United States, they were hoping to create a community for French exiles and find a viable company. Little did they know, their arrival would alter the course of American history.

Thanks to a Philadelphia Sunday Sun “Smooth Traveler” story, the entire DuPont family legacy has been mapped out in a comprehensive list of the many DuPont properties and landmarks, now dubbed as “Chateau Country” because of its rolling hills and elegant estate museums.
