Since 2012 Delaware has been ranked a top-ten bicycle friendly state in the nation, and we’re excited to hear that this year is no different.

According to the League of American Bicyclists, Delaware ranks as the 6th best state in the country for biking, which is up one from last year where we were ranked 7th.

C. R. McLeod, the community relations director for Delaware’s Department for Transportation, pointed out the Bicycle Friendly Act signed into law by Gov. Carney in 2017. Since enacted, there have been several new bike trails popping up across the state.

“The new Markell Trail (connecting Wilmington and New Castle) has really been a boon for cyclists, especially in northern Delaware. And we’re seeing cyclists really come from out of state now to take advantage of our trail systems” said McLeod.

There are several biking trails surrounding Wilmington for you take advantage of such as the Jack A Markell Trail and trails in the Alapocas Run and Brandywine Creek State Parks.
