“I’ve lived in the charming city of Wilmington for about 14 years, having made the move from New Jersey in search of the perfect location to open my tattoo shop. It was an instant connection with this city when I laid eyes on the vividly painted buildings along Market Street.

Wilmington is a city that never sleeps, with so many activities and events, how could you not love it? My ideal weekend typically kicks off with a delicious dinner at Bardea, followed by a captivating performance at The Grand. I like to cap off the evening with a visit to Maker’s Alley, where I can unwind with drinks and soak in the open-air atmosphere. The following day, a leisurely brunch at Chelsea Tavern sets the tone for a relaxing afternoon spent at the Screening Room, enjoying a good movie. I also support our local artists in the city, and one of my favorite events is the Brandywine Arts Festival.

Since the opening of my tattoo shop, it has earned the prestigious title of Delaware Today’s Best of Delaware Upstate Tattoo Shop for six consecutive years. As fate would have it, I also found love in Wilmington too! My husband, originally from Chicago, relocated here for a job promotion and settled in the apartments behind my shop. His initial visit to Poppycock for a tattoo consultation eventually led to a year-long journey of crafting his sleeve and, ultimately, mustering the courage to ask me out. A year and a half later, we eloped!

I firmly believe that community involvement has been instrumental in my success. Collaborating and cross-promoting with fellow local businesses, as well as participating in Wilmington’s diverse programs, have significantly contributed to the flourishing of Poppycock Tattoo. Also, I actively support various charitable endeavors, such as serving as an Auction Donor for Planned Parenthood’s Chocolate & Champagne Festival, sponsoring AIDS Delaware Bingo, and taking part in the Lyme Warrior Tattoo event.

One of my proudest accomplishments in this city was organizing the Wilmo-a-Go-Go Car show on the Wilmington Riverfront for nine years. While I do miss hosting the event, the overwhelming growth of my tattoo shop, thanks to the support of my community, has been immensely rewarding.

A few fun facts about me:

  • I go on a camping adventure once a month at different Delaware State parks
  • Own a vintage 1962 Ford Ranchero
  • Dabble in the arts of taxidermy and macaroni art

As a piece of advice to fellow city dwellers, I encourage everyone to venture out and explore Wilmington to the fullest. There’s always something exciting happening here, just waiting to ignite your sense of adventure!
