#PeopleOfWilmDE: Reuben Dhanawade

Reuben Dhanawade is a Sous Chef at the University of Delaware, and recent  winner of Food Network’s Chopped! He is also this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE. Read more of his story below.

“I was born in India, and my parents moved our family to Delaware in 1996. I’ve worked in various Wilmington establishments over the years, including Eclipse Bistro and Two Stones Pub

I continue to choose Wilmington mostly to stay close to my parents, but over the years I’ve come to love this town. The food scene here is making waves! Amazing chefs like Andrew Cini, Gerald Allen, Antimo Dimeo, Tyler Akin, Dwian Kalup, and countless others have pushed me to continue growing as a chef.

My favorite event in Wilmington is the St. Anthony’s Italian Festival! It’s a Delaware classic!

My ideal night out in Wilmington? Usually, I like to start my night at Toscana and grab a drink from Brian or Veronica. Then have dinner at Crow Bar with a spritz and a shot of Fernet. And if time permits, have a nightcap at Torbert Street Social

Reuben Dhanawade on ChoppedOne of my proudest moments as a Wilmingtonian was recently winning Chopped.  Sharing that with my friends and family was an amazing experience.

I’d love to see Wilmington become more than a perceived outskirt of Philly. My main advice to Wilmingtonians is to patronize the local food joints. You don’t need to go to Philly anymore to have a fun night out!”
