#PeopleOfWilmDE: Ray Hancock

Ray Hancock is a 76ers Arena Host, Emcee, Entrepreneur & Brand Ambassador here in Wilmington. He is this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE! Read his story below:

Ray Hancock of Wilmington, DE

“I was born and raised in New Castle Delaware but I moved to Wilmington, Delaware when I started a position as a mailroom clerk at BlackRock. I spent a lot of this time working on my music career with my group The Cartel Enterprise and promoting a lot of our own parties and events. That is where I get my background as an emcee!

Three interesting facts about me include:

  1. I’m an actor and appeared in a few major motion pictures including Creed II and the Hustle Movie with Adam Sandler.
  2. I’m one of the founders of the Academy Creative Arts Studio.
  3. I started my career as a rap artist and concert promoter.

My proudest moment of being in this city was being selected as the Arena Host for our Delaware Blue Coats. As a Delawarean I have a lot of hometown pride and it is an honor to represent such a winning team and winning culture with the NBA G League as well as the NBA!

An ideal night out would be going to a Blue Coats game with friends and family, and then going to Taco Grande because I’m a Taco Monster! I’d end the night in Trolley Square for a few drinks with friends.

I love living and working in Wilmington because it is so close and accessible to many cool markets including Philadelphia, New York and Washington, DC.

Wilmington has helped me be where I am professionally and personally as I have made a lot of great connections with a lot of quality people in the entertainment industry.

I am excited about all the new restaurants and developments popping up on Market Street Downtown and The Riverfront. Downtown is definitely the place to be!

I would like to see more resources and afterschool programs available to Wilmington youth, like the ‘Stormin’ Norman’ League back in the day. I also feel like we can use some additional resources for underserved communities like parks, community centers, and even gardens to promote healthier living.

The advice I would give to the people in Wilmington is to really embrace one another as far as the culture and comradery.  I feel like we need more love and less hate to make this city and state great!”
