#PeopleOfWilmDE: Brittany Onley & Shinika Crawley

Brittany Onley and Shinika Crawley are the co-owners of MadeHerselfABoss, and are this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE. Read their story below.

“I was raised in Downtown Wilmington my entire life.  So, though I may travel around, this city has always been my home!

Three fun facts about me are:

  1. I’m an extroverted introvert
  2. I’m a retired songwriter
  3. I’m secretly a baking champ!

My ideal weekend in Wilmington would would start off with happy hour or dinner at Bardea, dancing and socializing at Suite 4 Eleven, and then grabbing some brunch with friends at Blume the next day!

For me, being in Wilmington has helped me to both utilize my existing community and connect with even more local people I had never met before through the conception of MadeHerselfABoss. Either way, there is always that hometown connection I feel when we are working with our clients. There are so many ambitious and creative people to partner with here in Wilmington so that alone has been awesome.

My advice to Wilmingtonians? Utilize the resources right here in the city. So many doors can open for you if you utilize the power of community. Whatever you may be seeking to help move yourself forward, there is someone right here who most likely can supply you with that solution. You know what they say, If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.”

“I moved here 5 years ago from Virginia for career/life changes and ended up birthing a business. I am originally from Baltimore and have been enjoying all that this city has to offer.

Three fun facts about me are:

  1. I’m a solo traveler.
  2. I’m a zip lining pro.
  3. I graduated from the Great Bethune-Cookman University! Shout out to my HBCUs.

My ideal weekend definitely starts with brunch at Blume on Saturday, and then enjoying Maker’s Alley in the evening with friends as we make a plan for the night and lastly meet Bri at Suite 4 Eleven and dance the night away.

Being in Wilmington it has given me permission to step into all that I am called to be. Moving here I knew no one, so it has forced me to be uncomfortable to make something happen for myself. Reach out to people, invest in what I don’t know to accomplish goals. Wilmington has taught me to be fearless in my moves.

My advice to Wilmingtonians? You need to get uncomfortable enough to move into your greatness. There is greatness in Wilmington in you! And if you can just sit and move in that energy all you desire for your life and business will happen because you are aligned. You believe and not doubting and you are preparing for you you desire to happen right now.”
