#PeopleOfWilmDE: Alexis Harris

Alexis Harris is a Digital Marketer, Content Creator, and Influencer, and is this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE. Read her story below.

“I moved to Delaware right after college. Initially, I lived in Newark and became friends with someone I met through TikTok (she had just moved to the state and commented on one of my videos). It was a no-brainer that once my lease was up that I was going to move to Wilmington, where she resided, so we became roommates and built our Delaware lifestyle together!

I created and currently manage First State Destinations: a Content Creation and Influencer Marketing Services Brand that utilizes digital marketing tools, i.e. social media platform(s), to visually communicate (by way of recommendations, promotions, reviews, etc.) travel, lifestyle, and
entertainment experiences available to users that identify with Delaware in any shape or form. In short, I’m a lifestyle, travel, and entertainment Content Creator and Influencer who uses her platform(s) to educate, spark confidence, and inspire the community by partnering with a number of organizations, sharing real-life experiences and recommendations in a creative way.

3 interesting facts about me are:
1. I am not from Delaware, I was born and raised in North Carolina, and moved here in May of 2019.
2. I love to have fun and find things to do, the fall and winter are my favorite seasons to bop around and explore!
3. I have my black belt in Taekwondo and was a Cheerleader for over 12 years!

My favorite area in Wilmington is The Riverfront! The environment gives you an “escape the city” feel while being able to explore local attractions and restaurants. My ideal night out in Wilmington would start out in Trolley Square, typically at Oyster House to take advantage of the happy hour deals! Next, we’ll venture to a local bar like Makers Alley or Docklands. The perfect end to the day is taking a late-night stroll on the Riverwalk.

Residing in the city of Wilmington makes for a lot of opportunities to meet people, whether out and about on the town or attending one of the numerous networking activities happening throughout the week. The local coffee shops are a great way to meet other people, both professionally and personally. I met a number of my “core” friends this way!

I continue to choose Wilmington because I enjoy the location. It’s central to our major city neighbors like Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., and is a short drive to southern Delaware, which makes it easy to explore Kent and Sussex County when I want to!

One of my proudest moments as a Wilmingtonian was recently when I had the opportunity to cover one of the largest free Jazz festivals on the east coast, The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, as First State Destinations Media. It was an honor and I had a blast meeting all the talented performers, and sharing the event with my audience.

My advice toWilmingtonians: Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, say hi to someone, or check out a local event – you never know who you’re talking to!”
