#PeopleOfWilmDE: LaTonga Manchez

LaTonga Manchez is a Drag Performer and the Show Director of Crimson Moon Tavern, as well as this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE. Read more of their story below.

“I started doing drag in Jacksonville, FL in 2010. Since then I have captured 10 pageant titles, including 1 national title. I moved to Delaware with my corporate job and quickly found family and friends within the community. Since moving to the area I have volunteered with the SPCA, the Delaware HIV Consortium, AIDS Delaware, and Relay for Life.

My ideal night in Wilmington? I like to start off with drinks in Trolly Square at either Anejo Mexican Grill + Tequila Bar or Kelly’s Logan House, and then head to Crimson Moon for the show and amazingly diverse clientele. I’m really looking forward to the rebuilding of Crimson Moon, and its anticipated re-grand opening. Some of my proudest moments of being a Wilmingtonian have been becoming Miss Crimson Moon in 2019, as well as hosting multiple charity events to benefit members of the greater Wilmington community. My favorite attractions right now are the amazing new LGBTQ+ brunches that have been forming all over the city!

LaTonga ManchezI continue to choose Wilmington because there is so much diversity and education left to bring to the area for the LGBTQ+ community. The community continues to blossom with each year! Because Wilmington is a smaller community, I have been able to grow a lot of personal connections here, and use my platform to be a voice for the community and reach larger audiences. I would like to see continued increased awareness of LGBTQ+ rights in Wilmington, and continuous building of resources such as healthcare for the members of our trans community.

My advice to people working and living in Wilmington is this: Come out, have fun, say hi, and be open and willing to make new friends with people who may be very different from you. Diversity in thought and culture make for the best conversations!”
