Wilmington Named One Of Three Rising Tech Hubs

When companies look to open new offices, not only does location matter but so does being business friendly. Wilmington, being centralized between three major cities (New York, Philadelphia, and Baltimore) makes it easy for people to travel to each city but with lower taxes on running a business, it makes sense for companies to take root here. According to ozy.com and JP Morgan and Chase, that is what makes us one of the top rising tech hubs.

“It’s easy to make things happen here as a creator,” says Rob Herrera, a Delaware native who moved from New York City to Wilmington and opened a co-working space called The Mill. “It’s a place where you can get things done with minimal red tape,” he says, adding that the state’s small enough and open enough that a relative newcomer like himself can have the governor’s number on his phone.

With this in mind, we’ve attracted quite a few Millennials and businesses in the tech sector. Over a quarter of the residents are between the ages of 18 and 34. We’ve also grown in technology jobs. We’ve steadily grown in technology jobs by 20% year after year, which is significantly higher than Philadelphia (1.7%) and Baltimore (-2.5%)
