Mayor Mike Purzycki recently participated in ribbon-cutting ceremonies, welcoming three new businesses to Wilmington: 2 Much Boutique, Over the Border Tacos, and finally, Exquisite Beauty Salon. The business owners attended the ceremonies, along with City Council members, City officials, family members, and also invited guests. These businesses, all of which are minority-owned, will be valuable additions to the city.

At 207 N Market Street, 2 Much Boutique markets the clothing brand “2 MUCH FOR YOU” by owner Lyniah Williams. Her focus is on empowering girls, helping them realize their value. Williams is also grateful for the opportunity to make her mark on her hometown. She expressed her brand vision, saying, “Just four years ago, I reinvented the designer in me and rebranded my business. I came up with a new brand name while sitting on my bed in my pink-and-white bedroom. When you can step into a room and feel like a dream girl just by what you are wearing – your energy, your inner beauty, and your exterior are just 2MUCH to handle.”

Over the Border Tacos: Jose Dominguez, Vanesa Colon, & daughter Jaymalie

Situated at 125 N Market Street, Over the Border Tacos is owned by Jose Dominguez, Vanesa Colon, and Andre Gantes. This restaurant serves authentic Mexican food in a welcoming atmosphere. Despite opening shortly before the pandemic, the business not only persevered but thrived. Dominguez expressed his gratitude, stating, “We’ve received tremendous support from the community, and we are extremely grateful. It has definitely been an adventure, to say the least.”

On Wilmington’s West Side at 910 N Union Street #4, Exquisite Beauty Salon is also a part of the Cornerstone West CDC’s small business district. The salon serves clients with diverse hair types, creating beautiful hairstyles that then boost their confidence. Owner Seberina Tucker grew up in the West Side neighborhood and feels honored to return to her community. She said, “Exquisite Beauty Salon is where stylists love to work, and clients love to come. I want to lead my community in their healthy hair care journeys by educating clients and stylists on treatments and maintenance that promote healthier hair practices. Ultimately, I aim to provide luxury services that enhance confidence and self-worth.”

Mayor Purzycki emphasized the importance of small businesses as well as individuals who take that kind of initiative. He stated, “That’s what cities are. The heartbeat of Wilmington’s economy is small business, and to have these three entrepreneurs express confidence in our city by investing here is heartening to all of us who serve. These businesses will bring new energy and jobs, and I wish these enthusiastic and enterprising young business owners much success on their journeys.”
