THE MEZZANINE GALLERY TO EXHIBIT “WITHIN THE INTIMATE REALM” BY E. SCHWINN

Prepare to immerse yourself in the captivating world of artist E. Schwinn as the Delaware Division of the Arts’ Mezzanine Gallery proudly presents her exhibition, titled “Within the Intimate Realm.” Delve into Schwinn’s artistic universe from April 5 to April 26, 2024, and mark your calendars for the Meet-the-Artist Reception scheduled for Friday, April 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

E. Schwinn’s artistic vision comes to life through intricate patterned collages, weaving together a tapestry of found images, fragments, sketches, abandoned works, and assorted patterns. Each composition serves as a portal to Schwinn’s inner world, offering glimpses into a complex psychological landscape. Within these pieces, patterns not only provide cohesion but also veil and obscure certain elements from plain view.

At the heart of Schwinn’s work lies a fascination with the human experience—how we accumulate memories, shape our identities, and navigate the interplay between revelation and concealment. Reflecting on her artistic journey, Schwinn says, “My creations serve as a mirror to the intricate process of self-discovery and self-concealment inherent to the human condition. They beckon viewers to unravel their narratives while simultaneously shrouding certain aspects behind intricate patterns—a metaphor for the enigmatic journey of personal evolution.”

Drawing inspiration from both outsider art and surrealist techniques that delve into the depths of the subconscious, Schwinn seamlessly blends fine art composition with diverse materials such as craft elements and magazine clippings. Beneath the surface of her aesthetically pleasing imagery lies a rich tapestry of hidden meanings and symbolism.

Residing and creating in Wilmington, Schwinn not only showcases her art but also imparts her knowledge and passion as a teaching artist, working with individuals across various age groups. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Texas at Austin, Schwinn’s artistic journey is as diverse as her creations.

The Mezzanine Gallery, situated on the second floor of the Carvel State Office Building at 820 N. French Street, Wilmington, welcomes visitors on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the captivating world of E. Schwinn’s “Within the Intimate Realm.”
