Mayor Mike Purzycki shared President Joe Biden‘s decision to set up his reelection campaign headquarters in Wilmington, his hometown. Mayor Purzycki believes that the President recognized the positive impact it will have on the economy as well as the city’s reputation.

“Joe has remained true to the ideals of leadership, fortitude and compassion that have always endeared him to the people of our city and our state, and now to the nation and the world,” said Mayor Purzycki. “We are proud of Joe and proud to host the President and his entire reelection team. We also welcome the media and the world to Wilmington, a city where everyone is respected and appreciated.”

President Biden’s roots in Delaware run deep. At the age of 10, his family moved to the state from Scranton, Pennsylvania. This marked the beginning of a journey that would see him earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. He would later represent the state for an impressive 36 years in the United States Senate. President Biden’s connection with Delaware and its people remains an integral part of his character. Moreover, as the first Delawarean President of the US, he feels a profound sense of pride in his home state:

“My family’s values, my eternal optimism and my unwavering belief in the American middle class as our nation’s backbone comes from my home – from Delaware,” said President Biden. “That’s why there is no better place for our reelection campaign to have its headquarters.”

As he headquartered his 2020 campaign in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, President Biden’s decision to move it to Wilmington holds significant meaning. It signals a return to his roots: the place that has shaped him as a leader and a person. The move showcases the President’s commitment to the state that has played a pivotal role in his journey, and where his heart lies.

Furthermore, Wilmington will gain historical significance as it becomes the base for a sitting President’s reelection campaign. This development is also expected to provide a much-needed economic boost to the city. Campaign headquarters bring in numerous staff, volunteers, and media professionals. Additionally, the increased attention on Wilmington as a focal point of national and international political activities is likely to enhance the city’s global image and promote it as a vibrant and dynamic location.

As Wilmington prepares to welcome the President’s campaign headquarters, the city stands ready to showcase its hospitality, diversity, and inclusivity. Mayor Purzycki and the residents of Wilmington are confident that hosting such a prestigious event will not only provide a unique opportunity for the local community but will also leave a lasting legacy in the city’s history.
