Michael Christopher Hemphill is the Owner and stylist of Michael Christopher Salon and Day Spa owner of Michael Christopher Beauty. Read his story below.

“I grew up working in my father’s salon in Kennett Square PA. When I was 22 I decided to move to Wilmington and opened my salon. I had a large Wilmington clientele coming to Kennett so it was only natural to expand to Wilmington next. I’ve worked in New York City and Beverly Hills, but Wilmington has always been home to me. I love the small city feel and its geographic location.

Three interesting facts about me:

  1. I was 14 years old when I went to a hairdressing school in Toronto, Canada.
  2. There was a point where I had 4 salon locations.
  3. I traveled the world with 3 different hair care lines.

I had great support from the community as I was building my business. Wilmington is very accessible for clients who travel from other areas. I’m excited about new businesses being built on the Riverfront and would like to see more growing activities for a livelier city.

Michael Christopher Salon and Day Spa has provided hair services for the Playhouse located at HOTEL DU PONT. We were fortunate enough to meet a lot of famous people coming to Wilmington and have also helped at all the fashion shows in Wilmington.

My favorite Wilmington attraction is St. Anthony’s Italian Festival. I very much enjoy the Italian food because of my heritage. My ideal night out in Wilmington is enjoying any activities or restaurants on the Riverfront.

One of my proudest accomplishments was when Governor du Pont gave me the Order of the State and Business Man of the Year.

My advice to Wilmingtonians? Enjoy and support small and local business!”
