Last week I visited CSC Station, the new brainchild from CSC, and Vice President Scott Malfitano’s project for over the past year. CSC was founded in 1899 and is the leading provider of business, legal, tax, and digital brand services to companies around the globe. They are comprehensively, the “business behind business.”

CSC Station was birthed as an idea for CSC to re-invest in Wilmington. According to Malfitano, “We asked ourselves, is there a way we can use our business services and attract some talent to Delaware? So we looked at this building and said, let’s create an innovation and coworking space so that people can utilize the train or get off the highway very quickly!”
Driving Innovation
“This building can be used as a coworking space so a business can run an office here, or individuals can get a desk/office, or if you want to get a day pass and work. As an innovation space we want to try to attract a different group that may be looking at creative, unique ideas with really focusing on a tech savvy group to move into the Wilmington area.”
What I was most impressed by with CSC is their determination to give back to the community. The 6th floor is currently dedicated as study lounges and spaces for Delaware’s college students. “Right now these young kids are trapped and need different bandwidth and a quiet space they can use free of charge.”
Supporting Local

They’ve planned to furnish the building with the help from the Challenge Program, which provides vocational training for Delaware’s at-risk youth. As a result, CSC Station will be outfitted with conference room tables and desks built right here in Wilmington.
Additionally, CSC is working with Malfitano’s non-profit, Intern Delaware. “We started (I.D.) a year ago to address the talent train; a lot of these young students are being attracted to New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Baltimore. What we have to do is showcase Delaware- look at this Riverfront! Delaware has so much to offer so we teamed up, and created a nonprofit with 21 companies last summer and attracted over 150 young interns to come and work in Delaware. Ultimately our goal is to measure our results of all those that have been offered and accepted a position in the state of Delaware.”

CSC Station is also slated to host the Pete duPont Freedom Foundation event Reinventing Delaware]. In the past it’s included 100 people, and the price of the ticket is coming up with an idea to make Delaware better. This collaboration has resulted in the creation of Intern Delaware, Second Chances Farm, Zip Code Wilmington, and Nerd It Now.
