Constitution Yards took me to new heights!

Ahhhhhhh Fall. This weekend was the perfect weather to throw on a flannel and hang outside at Constitution Yards! C.Y.B.G. (like the rest of the Riverfront) is dog friendly and perfect for a chill day/night hang with the backdrop of the Christiana River. It’s a seasonal beer garden featuring classic backyard BBQ fare, rotation of craft beers, weekly frozen cocktails, and wine.

The first thing I noticed was how lively it was! People were abiding by social distancing guidelines but the place was bustling with families, pets, couples, and groups of friends. Football was on their newly installed “big screen” so there were plenty of options for entertainment.

Back That Axe Up!

Ki’lier Lee was an awesome instructor!

After getting a beer and a pretzel I felt warmed up enough to attempt Wilmo Axes which is connected to C.Y.B.G. I met my Axe Master, Ki’lier Lee,  and he filled me in on a few safety precautions before we started. All participants must wear their own close toed shoes and masks are required for the experience.

I learned quickly that throwing two-handed worked way better for me than single-handed (it’s so hard to aim that way!). Channeling my victory from my bike race on the J.A.M last week, I used my competitive edge to beat Ki’lier in a “Sudden Death” challenge. But the Axe Master came back and beat me 11-6 when we actually played a game.

Manager Katie Durr sat down to chat about Constitution Yards and Wilmo Axes.

Lowdown on the ‘Yard

I got the chance to sit down and talk with manager Katie Durr, who filled me in on other activities and events at Constitution Yards like Free Yoga on the 2nd and last Thursdays of every month, and live bands every Friday and Saturday. “We’ve had a really great season so far, we started in June…which we normally begin very early in April. Despite COVID, we’ve had a great community outlook…patrons are so excited to come in and enjoy the outside weather.”
