Modern Healthcare has recognized ChristianaCare President and CEO Janice E. Nevin, M.D., M.P.H, as one of the nation’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives for the second year in a row.

ChristianaCare has an increasingly high recognition as a health system of the highest quality and safety. It was recognized by Forbes as one of the best employers for diversity and inclusion in the United States and was named one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades and one of World’s Best Hospitals by Newsweek.

Dr. Nevin has been the CEO of ChristianaCare since 2015 and was a key leader in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Nevin was commended for leading ChristianaCare through significant growth even while meeting the needs of the community during the pandemic. Some of the growth included the acquisition of Union Hospital in Cecil County, Maryland, joint ventures to expand urgent care and develop a new spine surgery center. Dr. Nevin was also credited for her leadership in areas of inclusion, diversity and health equity.

During the COVID-19 pandemic ChristianaCare quickly created COVID-19 testing sites throughout the community which included the region’s first drive-through testing site. Dr. Nevin’s leadership was key in these developments and she prioritized all aspects of the welfare of ChristianaCare’s more than 14,000 caregivers.

“Nevin is an example of a leader who took aggressive steps during the pandemic to ensure her organization stayed on target with key financial and strategic objectives,” according to her profile in Modern Healthcare’s June 21 edition announcing the awardees.

“As our nation and our community faced a once-in-a-lifetime challenge in the pandemic, Dr. Nevin demonstrated what true leadership means,” said Doneene Keemer Damon, Esq., chair of the Board of ChristianaCare and president of Richards, Layton & Finger. “She ensured that ChristianaCare met the needs of the moment, as she continued to lead the evolution of a vibrant organization that is taking on the challenges of tomorrow and transforming health care.”
