Press Release from DCAD
Student Gallery Club exhibition opening to public same night across Sixth Street
WILMINGTON, Del. (Oct. 2, 2017) – The Delaware College of Art and Design was founded in 1997 through a creative partnership between New York City’s Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C., and is Delaware’s first and only professional art and design college. Since its founding, DCAD has graduated more than 1,000 developing artists and designers while serving as an anchor institution for the redevelopment of downtown Wilmington.
The College is celebrating its 20 years in Wilmington throughout the 2017-18 academic term. A highlight of this observance has been the “DCAD@20” exhibition and auction, which opened Sept. 8 and is continuing through Oct. 15 in the College’s Toni & Stuart B. Young Gallery at 600 N. Market St. A second reception for the show will be held as part of Wilmington Art Loop from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6.
DCAD alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends – including members of the President’s Leadership Council advisory board – contributed art to the exhibition. Half of the sales proceeds will go to fund student scholarships while the other half will go to the artist. Also for sale are a number of works owned by DCAD, the full purchase price of which will go to the scholarship fund.
The exhibition was curated by Kelicia Pitts, who is a member of DCAD’s Admissions Team as well as an artist who contributed a number of pieces. DCAD alumna Sabrina Hairston, a member of the Class of 2013, assisted in hanging the show and also contributed artwork.
Several items already have been sold at their “buy now” prices. Approximately 150 pieces – including paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photographs – are able to be bid upon through the Oct. 16 deadline. To participate in the auction, visit https://dcad.schoolauction.net/dcad20/catalog.
