Over $30,000 in student scholarships distributed from Wilmington mayoral fund | Delaware First Media

Over two dozen high school grad will have some extra money to put toward their college bills thanks to the City of Wilmington.

Mayor Dennis Williams honored 31 of Wilmington’s top high school students, and presented more than $30,000 in scholarships during the Office of the Mayor Scholarship Awards Ceremony Tuesday night.

The scholarship program recognizes and celebrates the academic achievement of youths throughout the City of Wilmington.

This year, it handed out $33,300 to college-bound students, the largest amount awarded in the history of Mayoral scholarships. Last year, $27,500 was awarded, $20,000 was awarded in 2013 and $5,000 was awarded in 2012.

This year, scholarships ranging from 500 to 2,000 dollars were awarded to students of the Brandywine, Christina, New Castle County Vocational Technical, and Red Clay School Districts, as well as several private and parochial schools.
