The Wilmington Riverfront will soon be getting even better. The state of Delaware and the Federal Government are footing the bill to add a new road from Beech Street in the north past Frawley Stadium to Justison Street. Expanding access to the waterfront will spur prosperity that has been so successful at the riverfront down to the Southeastern section of Wilmington.
“The bridge will be a critical connection between the west side, or developed side of the Riverfront, and the southeastern section of Wilmington, which is one of the city’s last remaining larger areas of undeveloped land,” McLeod said on Friday.
According to the article found on Delaware Online, “The estimated 516 days of work likely will overlap with construction of two hotels on the Riverfront and a new arena for the Delaware 87ers (now called the Delaware Blue Coats) in Southbridge — the latest redevelopment efforts in an area where state officials have invested hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars.”
DelDOT believes that the success of Wilmington’s redevelopment will increase with multi-modal transportation improvements.
