Your Guide to Memorial Day Weekend 2023 in Wilmington, DE

The kick-off weekend to summer, Memorial Day Weekend (MDW) honors those who have lost their lives in service to our nation by celebrating American life itself as we turn the corner from the unpredictability of spring to the warmth of summer.  

Many think of MDW as the first chance to get on the beach for the season, but there is summer fun to be had right here in Wilmington!

Celebrate Memorial Day:

Wilmington Memorial Day Parade – The oldest continuous parade in the US, Wilmington’s annual Memorial Day parade is always held on May 30th. This year, the parade will be slightly modified, occurring at 6pm at the Soldiers and Sailors monument. Take part to appreciate the meaning behind the holiday!

Rockwood Park and Museum – Opening on Memorial Day for self-guided tours and a special holiday decoration workshop. Enjoy the museum and grounds and participate in some patriotic arts and crafts!

Get Outside:

Brandywine Park – You don’t have to be at the beach to enjoy the water this MDW! The largest urban park in Delaware, Brandywine Park gets its name from the Brandywine River, which winds serenely through its 178 acres. 

Riverwalk Mini Golf – Open again along with the warm weather, Riverwalk Mini Golf is extending its weekend hours to Memorial Day itself from 12-7pm. The course roams along the Wilmington Riverfront, with scenic waterside views. Stop by the golf shack for some cool summer treats!

Constitution Yards
Live Music!

Constitution Yards – A dog-friendly, seasonal beer garden, Constitution Yards is a great place to unwind and listen to some live music. Check out these MDW performances:

  • Friday: Bucket of Hot (classic rock, country, pop) 7-10pm
  • Saturday: Sin Brothers (classic rock, pop, folk rock) 7-10pm
  • Monday/Memorial Day: Jukebox Trio (dance/electronic) 5:30-8:30pm

Docklands Riverfront – You don’t have to be at the beach to enjoy some delicious food and live entertainment by the waterside. Live music starts at 9pm, check out these bands scheduled for MDW:

  • Friday: Shake Shake Shake (modern medleys & mashups) 
  • Saturday: Laura Lea (rock)

Oddly Dope –  Described as a “healing sound experience”, the Delaware Music Network hosts this event at Oddity Bar. The evening will foster healing and renewal through the work of various musical artists, as well as a vegan BBQ! Cover is $10 and the show starts at 6pm.
