The 4th of July is an opportunity to celebrate with family and friends! There are so many fun options for people of all ages to enjoy the holiday. We’ve included some recommendations not only for Wilmington, but outside of the city!

1. Celebration and Fireworks on the Wilmington Riverfront– This classic Wilmington event will begin at 2 pm this year and offers lots of free activities like pony rides, a petting zoo, live music, mini train rides, face painting, and more. The day of fun ends with an impressive fireworks display for an incredible fourth!

2. 36th Firecracker 5k Run Walk– Get active this holiday by participating in our celebratory 5k! The race will start at 8 am on July 4th, so head on down to the Hare Pavillion on the Wilmington Riverfront and check it out.

3. Kalmar Nyckel Tours– Get in the spirit of the holiday by embracing our history! A tour of the Kalmar Nyckel is available for FREE this fourth and is the perfect way to bring American history into your holiday.

4. Wilmington and Western Railroad Firework Express– Park at the Greenbank Station and grab a seat to enjoy a ride into Hockessin to view the firework show. Passengers are welcome to bring coolers, blankets, and folding chairs aboard.

5. Wilmington Blue Rocks vs Jersey Shore Blue Claws Post-Game Fireworks– Baseball is one of America’s true pastimes, so combining a ballgame and fireworks this weekend is a no-brainer! Get tickets to the game on July 1st or 2nd and stick around after for post-game fireworks.

University of Delaware Liberty Day

6. Liberty Day and Fourth of July Fireworks at the University of Delaware– The Blue Hens are offering a night of great food, live entertainment, and a memorable pyrotechnics show at their Athletic Complex this fourth beginning at 6 pm. It is going to be a great way to celebrate!

7. Wooden Wheels 4th of July Group Ride, Party, and Fireworks– Want to get active this fourth? Join in on the group bike ride through White Clay and Middle Run (road rides welcome too). After, the group is headed to the Newark Reservoir to watch the fireworks, as well.

8. Hockessin Fourth of July Celebration– This is a full day of activities and celebration, definitely Independence day done right! From 8 am until night there will be games, contests, food, a parade, and, of course, fireworks! It will be fun for the whole family.
