Wilmington Welcomes 2020 And Recaps End Of Year Events

Wilmington had an event filled Holiday Season that brought plenty of excitement and spirit into the city. Congratulations to all who were involved! Let’s recap some of the events as well as share the results from the City’s Toy Drive.

The festivities kicked off November 30th when Wilmington musician Chad Michael Jervis of King Calaway served as Grand Marshal of the 56th Annual Jaycees Christmas Parade. Following the parade was Downtown Vision’s Holiday Village in Wilmington Square that featured a visit from Santa as well as a pop-up village with local vendors,  live carolers, delicious treats and more. The night concluded with the Holiday Light Display that will continue to run into February.

On December 3rd Mayor Purzycki joined a crowd at H.B. DuPont Plaza for the annual Caroling in the Square event and the city’s Christmas Tree lighting. Santa was once again in attendance and the event featured holiday songs led by Gerald Chavis and The Fast Lane Big Band, featuring special guest Raye Jones Avery and the City of Wilmington Employee Choral Ensemble.

The season ended New Years Eve as hundreds gathered at Horizon Services Riverfront Rink for the 4th Annual Fun Night that featured a fireworks celebration at 9p.m. as well as fun activities such as ice-skating sessions, food and drink specials, and an ice-sculpting demonstration.

Finally, we are excited to share the results from the Mayor’s Annual Toy Drive. By working with Santa and 18 local community agencies, over 800 toys were provided to children across the city. The city gives special thanks to Walmart Store Manager Andrew Rosko and his dedicated staff who assisted with selecting and wrapping the toys, and Director of Constituent Services Jennifer Prado and her team for organizing the annual toy drive.
