The Vendemmia Italian Wine Festival, which began in Wilmington in 2003, is returning to the City next month in its original home—Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park—on Sunday, October 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets to the event can be purchased here.

A glorious afternoon is planned featuring samplings of over 40+ wines, and many food favorites from the area’s best restaurants including: Sitaly, Café Pomodoro, Café Riviera, La Pizzeria Metro, Nicola Pizza, Serpe’s Bakery and Olevano olive oil.

A variety of beers will be featured at the Dogfish Head Beer Garden along with guest appearance by none other than beer megastar, Sam Calagione!

Attendees can also enter the Italian gravy/sauce or homemade wine/cordials competition, join the attempt to set a World Record for the most people participating in the tarantella dance led by the Wilmington Ballet, and enjoy tons of live entertainment including the swinging sounds of Steve Silicato and the classical arias of renowned mezzo soprano Andrea Arena.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome back the Vendemmia Italian Wine Festival to Wilmington, where it belongs,” said Mayor Purzycki. “This event is a celebration of the local Italian community and its proud heritage and culture. The festival features wine, food, music and dancing that everyone has come to appreciate and will enjoy again next month. My thanks to the Italian American Foundation and the DaVinci Society for bringing the festival back home.”

The event is sponsored by the Delaware Italian American Foundation, a 501(c)3 not for profit. All proceeds will be spent locally in grants for at-risk youth and educational initiatives. The grant process will be overseen the Societa` da Vinci.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information about the 2019 Vendemmia Italian Wine Festival, contact Steve Silicato at (610) 592-4285.
