The Wilmington Drama League Adapts In The Wake of COVID

“The show must go on” is a phrase often used in the arts as a way of pushing forward when there is a minor set back. When it came to the current global health pandemic, the Wilmington Drama League took that phrase and ran with it.

Almost immediately following Shelter-in-place orders, the board members and volunteers of WDL began discussions on how to still bring art to their audience, and engage the community.

The Shutdown Showcase is a series of digital installments, from story-telling and one woman Shakespeare performances, to clips of digital rehearsals of productions that are now on hold. To learn more about the Shutdown Showcase, click here.

Earlier this week, WDL announced their audition and director notice for the Jeff Walker Youth One Act Festival. Set to take place Saturday, August 8th, the festival will be held on an outdoor stage with social distanced seating. These arrangements adhere well to Governor Carney’s allowance of outdoor gatherings up to 250 people. The theatre also announced in their notice that guidelines and safety measures are being taken for both rehearsals, and auditions are being submitted online. Read the notice and learn more here.
