Praveena Kumar is the Founder of Kati Roll Wala in The Chancery Market, and is this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE! Read her story below.
“Since 2014, I have been visiting Wilmington on a regular interval to meet my friends, and gradually I started liking the greenery and peace. When I got an email from HHQ that they are opening a food hall in downtown Wilmington and that they would like us to open Kati Roll Wala, I lept at the opportunity!
My passion has always been to share the food I love with everyone. Some of my fondest memories in life revolve around healthy and delicious meals, accompanied by laughter and cherished moments with loved ones. At Kati Roll Wala, I have created a space where people can come together, savor healthy food, and create unforgettable memories. I want Indian cuisine to be approachable and relatable, rather than exotic or mysterious. I started this business with my friends and family, and at the end of the meal my wish is for you to leave here feeling like you’ve met an old friend or had a heartwarming meal with family.
3 interesting facts about me are:
1. I am an adventurous traveler, enjoy road trips with my family. I have been to 35 states by road.
2. I am a creative cook and interior designer. I enjoy designing home.
3. I enjoy Bollywood dancing.
A couple of my favorite attractions in Wilmington are the Delaware Art Museum and the Delaware Children’s Museum. I also really enjoy Thursday nights at The Chancery Market Music Bingo with DJ Taven and a glass of red wine.
One of my proudest moments as a Wilmingtonian was being part of the James Beard Foundation Sunday Supper event. Proud to share the platform with renowned chefs of wilmington.
I continue to choose Wilmington because it is an ideal city for small business that is also budget friendly. People are welcoming and kind enough to try different cuisine to support small businesses. Community support is important for anyone to grow professionally and as well individually. Wilmington does it with open arms.
I am excited about Wilmington’s new project towards beautification of the downtown area to attract new businesses and residents. As the city continues to grow, I would like to see more connectivity for international travellers.
My advice to Wilmingtonians is to go out and talk to people- no one is stranger in Wilmington.”
