Kate Maxwell is the Founder and Owner Wingmom, Inc. and is this week’s #PeopleOfWilmDE! Read her story below.
“My parents are both lifelong Delawareans. My father, a school teacher turned politician and my mother who ran all his campaigns taught me so much about public service. I went to Ursuline from Kindergarten through high school and then UD– can’t get much more Delaware! After meeting my boys’ dad, moving to Arizona, getting married and having my boys, I returned back home because I knew I wanted them to have the same experience I had growing up. We lived in Fairfax for almost 10 years and now reside in Arden. I worked in the hospitality field for many years but once I had kids I focused more on marketing. I launched Wingmom in 2017 with a friend and my life really took a fun turn from there.
I do a lot of work in the community with Attack Addiction, Face the Facts, and Unseen Warriors. My company Wingmom is also very community oriented. This holiday season we are adopting 55 families from all the school districts in New Castle County.
Three interesting facts about me are:
- I have 6 older siblings.
- I have a Master’s in Counseling.
- I am in recovery and have been sober 4 years.
I honestly am not much for going out but love hanging with my bestie and her husband at Bardea. I also love the Riverfront. I can remember when it was a blank canvas and I love watching it grow.
The opportunities Delaware affords me personally and professionally are wonderful but it’s the community that is the reason I stay. When my fiance passed in 2016 the community rallied behind me and helped me in so many tremendous ways. That help is the basis and the foundation of Wingmom.
I continue to choose Wilmington because I love being a part of such a small town with a big future and vision. I love all the new restaurants coming to Market Street and Wilmington and I can’t wait for the skating rink on the Riverfront to be open again. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the Wilmington part of I-95 being finished!”
