WHAT: Delaware College of Art and Design students, faculty, staff and friends will fill art kits and write encouraging notes for 200 children in crisis as part of the City of Wilmington’s Emma’s Art Carts initiative during a kit-pack day on campus.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017

WHERE: Delaware College of Art and Design, 600 N. Market St., Wilmington

DETAILS: The Jefferson Awards Foundation – regionally headquartered at the Community Services Building here in Wilmington – partners with mayors around the United States to “activate” national award-winning youth community service projects throughout the country. Wilmington’s Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs recruited DCAD – along with Jerry’s Artarama and Bank of America, which packed additional kits in November – to activate this year’s winner, Emma’s Art Carts, locally.

Youngsters who receive kits will be encouraged to use artistic creativity to explore their feelings and find a respite from whatever they’re going through. The handwritten notes that students and other kit-pack participants will write will support this therapeutic aim.

Kit examples are at http://bit.ly/KITEXAMPLES. Pieces that tell Emma Stumpf’s story are at http://bit.ly/EMMAPROJECT and http://bit.ly/EMMAAWARD.

CONTACT: Susan Coulby, DCAD director of communications, 302-983-5710 or scoulby@dcad.edu.
