Arrival of Community Fridge at William “Hicks” Anderson Community Center

The City partnered with AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware and Planting to Feed to bring better food options to West Center City year round! The purpose of the community refrigerator is to help individuals and families that do not have access to healthy food items – especially fresh produce, fruits, and vegetables. Planting to Feed will restock the fridge at “Hicks” Anderson on a weekly basis.

Planting to Feed, founded by CEO Jessica Wescott in 2016, opened the very first community refrigerator in Delaware at Wilmington’s Kingswood Community Center in 2020; this will be the organization’s sixth refrigerator.

The community fridge at “Hicks” Anderson is sponsored by AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware through a $10,000 grant, which includes a second refrigerator for community partner Delaware Urban Greens, the nonprofit arm of The Juice Joint owned by Lanice Wilson.
