The University of Delaware’s UDairy Creamery will be opening its first off-campus location in May at 815 North Market Street.
Situated next to the Chelsea Tavern and across the street from Wilmington’s Grand Opera House. UDairy makes their premium, handmade ice cream from cows milked at UD’s College of Agriculture’s farm.
Students from UD’s Associate in Arts Program will operate the new UDairy Creamery Market. In addition to operating the store, they will also be making the ice cream on site, serving customers, supervising the storefront and developing the marketplace into a sustainable business.
“Our students are Delawareans, many of whom are going to stay in the state after graduation. This is part of a larger effort to reconfigure Wilmington as somewhere you want to be because there are opportunities there for internships and for work.” said David Satran, director of the Associate in Arts program
In addition to ice cream products, honey, wool blankets and other items produced by UD’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources will be available for purchase. There will also be a farm-to-table menu that will include burgers, gourmet grilled cheese, salads and other items straight from the University’s organic garden.
Keep a look out for the grand opening date. UDairy will be giving out free scoops of ice cream!
