Wilmington Parks and Recreation Department Announces 2024 Summer Camp Options at Camp Barnes

The FREE camp will offer two four-day sessions in July

Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki and Ian R. Smith, Director of Parks and Recreation, have announced the opening of the registration process for the 2024 Summer Camp program at Camp Barnes. Located at 37171 Camp Barnes Road in Frankford, Delaware, the camp will offer two four-day sessions as follows:

SESSION I:
  • Dates: July 12-15, 2024
  • For: Boys ages 8 to 12
SESSION II:
  • Dates: July 19-22, 2024
  • For: Girls ages 8 to 12

Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of 30 campers per session. The Department of Parks and Recreation will provide transportation to and from Camp Barnes. Activities at the camp will include swimming, kayaking, nature walks, scavenger hunts, campfire activities, arts and crafts, and more. All participants will receive a free camp T-shirt.

Director Smith expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating, “The partnership with the Wilmington Police Department allows city kids to experience Camp Barnes, a tradition that has been cherished for over thirty years. Engaging in diverse activities in a serene natural environment is not only enjoyable and healthy but also fosters skill development and lasting camaraderie among young people.”
