The summer is winding down, so it’s time to make the most of these dwindling sunny, free days with your family. Check out our list of family friendly activities and attractions that will get you active and provide fun for the whole family.
Delaware Children’s Museum – The Delaware Children’s Museum is a great place to take the kids that’s fun as well as enriching! This museum welcomes children from diverse backgrounds with the purpose of developing their creative minds through interactive exhibits and programming. Admission is FREE for families of military members and teachers! General admission is $12 but parking is FREE! Moreover, an annual membership is $119.
Kalmar Nyckel Foundation’s Copeland Maritime Center – While the Kalmar Nyckel ship will not return to Wilmington’s port until September 16, the Copeland Maritime Center and Museum is present year-round on the Riverfront. You can step onboard a three-quarter size model of the real ship! Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids ages 5-17.
Enchanted Woods – Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library – Perfect for kids who love fairy tales, they’ll be enchanted by this little fairy village on the grounds of Winterthur. They can explore all the detailed aspects of the magical woods, and then wish in a well! The rest of the Winterthur is also beautiful. General admission is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors, students, and teens (13-18), and $8 for children (3-12).
Riverwalk Mini Golf – Spend some time along the riverfront with this course, which has integrated natural elements of the Wilmington riverfront within its design. Stop by the golf shack afterward to try one of their NINE flavors of soft serve ice cream! $10 per person.
Constitution Yards – Constitution Yards is a beer garden with fun for the whole family! Adults can enjoy a rotation of craft beers, specialty cocktails, and wine. Everyone can enjoy the classic American bar food, live music on the weekends, and yard games. It’s also dog friendly!

Brandywine Zoo – This zoo, located in Brandywine Park, has tons of programs perfect for families! These include Little Nature Explorers, Storytime, Keeper Chats, Creature Features, and more! They also have a “Sip & Stroll” coming up in the evening on August 20th. Summer season general admission is $7 for adults and $5 for children.
Wilmington & Western Railroad – This railroad was chartered way back in 1867, and still has working steam and diesel-powered locomotives. Take a ride on their picnic trains for a blast from the past or check out their Princess Express event coming up on August 13! Fares may vary, but adults typically pay $25 and children ages 2-12 cost $23.
2023 LIVE! In the Parks Concert Series – These FREE park concerts put on by Gable Music Ventures are every Monday (Rockford Park) and Wednesday (Sugar Bowl Pavilion) from 6:30-8pm. However, food trucks and beer from Wilmington Brew Works will be available to purchase!
Delaware Nature Society – The Delaware Nature Society has nature programs, summer camps, and outdoor activities for adults, children, and family across various locations, including Ashland Nature Center, Coverdale Farm Preserve, DuPont Environmental Education Center, and more. Check out their free weekly activities!
William “Hicks” Anderson Community Center – This community center, located at 501 N. Madison Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19801 hosts an assortment of different programs suitable for all age groups. Check out the drumline class and martial arts training for any age!
MSK Community Center – Located at 1009 Sycamore St, Wilmington, DE 19805, MSK has a myriad of options for anyone to stay busy and try new activities this summer. From cardio line dancing, to chess, to self-defense kickboxing, they really have it all!
