Historical Black Colleges and Universities Week is returning for its third year September 15-21, 2019! The goal of this event is to encourage high school-aged youth in Wilmington to enroll in HBCU’s through exposure to their proud legacies, and historical significance.

Each year has a plethora of events but two of the largest are the college fare and Battle of the Bands. The college fair has provided over 1,000 youth on the spot acceptances and over $1,000,000.00 in scholarships. The Battle of the Bands attracted a crowd of 7,000 people in Wilmington, to experience a true and authentic HBCU Homecoming experience.

New this year, NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson and the General Manager of the Philadelphia 76ers and former manager of the Delaware Blue Coats, Elton Brand, will join HBCU Week Ambassador Stephen A. Smith for a live broadcast of ESPN’s “First Take,” at the 76ers Fieldhouse on Friday, September 20, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The broadcast will air during the 2019 HBCU College Fair.
