Mayor Mike Purzycki and City Cultural Affairs Director Tina Betz invite City residents and citizens around the region to support the arts in Wilmington as the 30th-anniversary celebration for Art Loop Wilmington continues on Friday, September 7. After its last summer hiatus, the Art Loop is again ready to exhibit visual art that will be available for viewing FREE of charge on a monthly basis for a full 12-month period. No more summer breaks because, in Wilmington, the arts never stop!

“The Art Loop is a longstanding Wilmington tradition and an integral part of the cultural life of our City,” said Mayor Purzycki.  “We are pleased to also announce our new promotion and management partnership with Out & About Magazine, which is also marking its 30th year of promoting businesses and the local arts community. This relationship will greatly benefit the Art Loop and we are thankful to magazine founder and publisher Jerry DuPhily and his staff for always being there to support our City.”

“The true testament to the value of the Art Loop for artists, exhibition venues, businesses, and the public is its longevity,” said Betz. “What began as Art on the Town in 1988 has continued to grow and thrive for three decades.  We look forward to continuing this important tradition for another thirty years.”

The Wilmington Art Loop is a monthly, self-guided exhibition of visual art displayed at galleries, studios, museums and alternative spaces in and around Wilmington. The FREE event draws local and regional art lovers to the Downtown District and greater Wilmington area on the first Friday of the month with the exception of Independence Day Weekend in July 2019, when the Art Loop will take place on July 12.

Some venues offer opportunities to meet the featured artists while patrons enjoy refreshments, and, in some cases, live entertainment is scheduled. Out & About has teamed up with Break Thru Beverage to present complimentary beer, wine or spirit tastings at three Loop venues that will rotate each month in the coming year.

The offerings for the month of September include:

  • a selection of new paintings by Thomas Del Porte presented by the Delaware Division of the Arts at the Mezzanine Gallery (820 North French Street)
  • Diane Cannon’s “Branching Out” at the Delaware Center for Horticulture (1810 North DuPont Street), which will include tastings featuring Jack Daniels Rye Whisky
  • and the show “three + three” at the Hardcastle Gallery (5714 Kennett Pike, Centerville), featuring original paintings, from traditional to contemporary, from six different artists in six different styles
  • and so many more!

Art Loop Wilmington’s website – a hand-held guide to the Loop that is easily navigable by gallery location, artist or type of venue – is now more mobile friendly and will feature the upcoming lineup at least two weeks prior to the start of each Art Loop. The site can be accessed at www.artloopwilmington.org.
