The event was complete with attendees from the 76ers, Buccinni Pollin Group, Westin, Government officials and more. Wilmington is very proud and excited to have the new facility. The event began with the Blue Coats band followed by speeches all carrying a similar tone of pride, excitement and hope for all that the new facility will bring. One theme continuously spoke to was the opportunity for these athletes to become mentors for the children right here in their hometown. Philadelphia and Wilmington seemed very eager to begin this partnership and speeches were short, light-hearted and sprinkled with humor about the building having been already started and the heat, that day.

The facility was originally announced late last November, and according to a release from that time, the plan for the facility is to include more than just a home court:

“Boasting three full-size professional basketball courts, two indoor turf soccer fields, a world-class sports performance and athletic training area, as well as retail and office space, this dynamic new facility will also serve as a beacon for youth sports in Delaware.”

Despite the NBA franchise playing its home games at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, both the Blue Coats and the Sixers now have training facilities located outside of Pennsylvania.
